- The Funding Crisis: Government grants are slow, bureaucratic, and risk-averse. They prefer financing "safe" research that guarantees publications, rather than bold ideas that might fail (or change the world). Many researches die here, in the so-called "Valley of Death".
- The Publisher Monopoly: If you manage to do the research, you need to publish it. You send your work for free to journals like Nature or Science. Other scientists review it for free. The journal publishes it and charges $30 to $50 per article so that you (or your university) can read the work that you produced. It's a parasitic business model that locks knowledge behind paywalls.
- Silenced Data: Negative data (experiments that failed) are rarely published. This causes other scientists around the world to spend millions repeating the same mistakes, simply because they didn't know someone had already tried that.
TradSci is centralized, inefficient, and exclusionary. DeSci proposes an alternative.
What Is DeSci and How Does It Work?
DeSci is a movement that uses Web3 tools — such as smart contracts, DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations), and tokens — to improve modern science.
The goal isn't to change how science is done (the scientific method remains the same), but rather how it is funded, shared, and monetized.
1. Funding via DAOs
Instead of waiting months for government approval, scientists can present proposals to a DAO. The community, formed by experts and investors, votes.

Is DeSci a Good Investment?
The DeSci narrative is still extremely early. In terms of market maturity, we are where DeFi was in 2018.
This means the upside potential is asymmetric (very high), but the risk is also high. Most DeSci tokens have low liquidity and small market caps.
However, the "Product-Market Fit" is clear. The biotechnology market moves trillions of dollars. If DeSci captures just 1% of this market, we are talking about a giant asset class.
The Future: Science Without Borders
Imagine a world where a patient with a rare disease in Brazil can, through a DAO, directly fund a researcher in India who is working on the cure, receiving in exchange tokens that represent a future share in that medicine.
DeSci removes the middlemen (bureaucrats and publishers) and reconnects the two most important ends: those who do the science and those who need it.
